Rotation? No. Foden and Grealish didn’t come in to visit the nightclub. They didn’t deserve to play, raged Guardiola
Christmas is a time of celebration and peace for many people. Not so in the Premier League, where footballers are extremely busy. So no early celebrations are out of the question. Now Manchester City stars Phil Foden and Jack Grealish have paid the price by going to a nightclub.
Christmas is a time of celebration and peace for many people. Not so in the Premier League, where footballers are extremely busy. So no early celebrations are out of the question. Now Manchester City stars Phil Foden and Jack Grealish have paid the price by going to a nightclub.
The Premier League has entered its craziest phase. Over the Christmas period, teams play games maybe just two days apart, this phase often gives a clue as to the season’s future course. That’s why everyone has to be perfectly prepared and as focused as possible.
However, Manchester City’s star strikers Phil Foden and Jack Grealish wanted to let off a bit of steam. Last Tuesday, the Citizens thrashed Leeds 7-0, both of them had a big part in that. Foden scored the winning goal in the 8th minute, Grealish added the insurance in the 13th minute.
However, at the weekend against Newcastle, both were missing from the starting line-up and surprisingly sat on the bench for the whole game. The reason? There was no rotation involved, with coach Pep Guardiola punishing his charges for a trip to a nightclub after the Leeds game.
“It wasn’t a rotation, no. I decided for this team because they deserved to play and the others didn’t. At Christmas I watch a lot of the players’ behaviour on and off the pitch. And if it’s not right off the field, they won’t play. I didn’t rotate the lineup today. If the players think that, they are wrong,” Guardiola told reporters after the game.
And the reason for Guardiola’s annoyance didn’t take long. The Telegraph reported that Foden and Grealisehm went to a nightclub after the Leeds game to celebrate the win and the club was very concerned about the state in which the two star players turned up for recovery training the next day.
Guardiola was not at the training centre on Wednesday as he flew to Barcelona for Sergio Agüero’s farewell to his playing career. When he returned and heard the news, he was supposed to be very unhappy, according to the English media.
However, even without these two wingers, Guardiola had a great selection, putting the trio of Sterling – Jesus – Mahrez in attack. Manchester City beat Newcastle 4-0 and the whole trio scored. Mahrez scored a goal and an assist and Sterling was assisted by Gabriel Jesus. Foden and Grealish didn’t miss much for the Citizens.
But for young Foden, this is his second foul in the last year. At an England national team meeting, he and Mason Greenwood were sent off by Manchester United for ordering female company to their room when they should have stayed in the covid bubble.
the 21 year old midfielder has huge potential to become one of the best players in the world, hopefully he won’t spoil it so much with his behaviour off the pitch.
