Rosicky to Arsenal? The London club have scouted a replacement for Edu at Real Sociedad, why would this link-up make sense?
Until a few days ago, Tomas Rosicky was linked with the position of sporting director at Arsenal London, his former club. But it seems that the management of the English club has found a replacement for Edu elsewhere. That could be Roberto Olabe from Real Sociedad.

- Until a few days ago, Tomas Rosicky was linked with a move to Arsenal
- The London club was left by long-time member of the sports department Edu
- Real Sociedad’s Roberto Olabe could be Arsenal’s replacement
Edu was a long-time member of Arsenal’s sports department. However, when he announced his departure as sporting director, it was quite a shock for the London club. He is one of the capable people who led Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League table.
Along with Mikel Arteta, they brought in key reinforcements that also fit perfectly into the squad. The sporting department, in short, could not be in better hands. But that is now in the past, Edu recently left the aforementioned position, so Arsenal have understandably started looking for a replacement.
Two people have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, two former Gunners players. Namely Tomas Rosicky and Per Mertesacker. It must be added, however, it was not just speculation from the Czech environment, as it might seem.
Rosicky had previously received several offers from European clubs and there were also feelers with Borussia Dortmund, but the former national team captain remained loyal to Sparta. In his setup, however, it is clear that he does not want to stay at the club for the rest of his life.
According to website Footmercato, Rosicky was supposed to be on the shortlist of names suitable for the post of Arsenal sporting director. Arteta, with whom Rosicky has a very good relationship, was also supposed to have a say in the selection of the new head of sport.

Rosicky at the Emirates Stadium? Arsenal have found a replacement for Edu at Real Sociedad
But as it seems, Rosicky won’t be the chosen man to lead the Gunners to the title after all. Objectively, we must add that Sparta’s current sporting director is inexperienced in the field of world football as an official.
That is why the choice will probably fall on another capable person, who according to the latest reports should replace Edu. The Times editorial board has come forward with information that it is considering engaging another club’s director. Like Edu, Roberto Olabe has also announced his end at Real Sociedad.
He is due to leave the Basque club at the end of the current season. So it’s no surprise that Olabe was on Arsenal’s radar almost immediately. Moreover, he is familiar with the Spaniard coaching the London club, having pulled him out of Rangers in 2004.
