Manchester United needed to react as quickly as possible to the horrific and embarrassing Liverpool debacle and that is exactly what they did. A key man in repairing that reputation was the star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils are going through an unflattering period. This culminated a week ago in a shameful debacle when Manchester United succumbed to rivals Liverpool 5-0 at home.

Understandably, there were immediate reports of the sacking of coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but he continues to have the confidence of the management. But to keep it, the Norwegian coach needs his charges to bounce back to form as quickly as possible.

They did just that on Saturday in north London when they took on Tottenham. Cristiano Ronaldo, who hadn’t scored in his previous three league games, was the main man of the match.

The Portuguese single-handedly took care of the opening goal of the match in the 39th minute when he cleared a fluffy centre from a volley into the net off the foot of compatriot Bruno Fernandes.

Ronaldo then notched an assist in the second act when he sent in Edinson Cavani, who made no mistake.

Marcus Rashford added the third and final goal of the game.

Manchester United thus managed to win the important match 3-0 and get a well-deserved three points. They are three points behind third-placed Manchester City and eight points behind leaders Chelsea.
