Cristiano Ronaldo has been reprimanded by police for an incident in April involving a 14-year-old boy who had his phone knocked out of his hand. According to reports, Ronaldo was even to be questioned, with the Portuguese star also reportedly agreeing to pay compensation.

According to the Daily Mail, Ronaldo received a caution from British police for the incident on 9 April, when Manchester United lost 0-1 to Everton at Goodison Park.

Fourteen-year-old Jacob Harding, who, according to his mother, suffers from dyspraxia (a motor disorder) and is autistic, filmed Ronaldo as he left the pitch. However, he could not bear the loss at Everton and knocked the youngster’s phone out of his hand.

The young fan’s hand was then bruised and his phone broken. Ronaldo subsequently apologised to Harding via his Instagram account, but was still questioned by police over the alleged assault.

“We can confirm that the 37-year-old voluntarily attended and submitted to questioning after being advised that he could be charged with the offence of assault. The case was dealt with by caution and has been closed,” a statement from Merseyside Police said.

In addition to the caution, Ronaldo also agreed to pay compensation. “We were right by the tunnel where they (United players) were walking through – my son was filming them all. Then he put his phone down because Ronaldo had pulled his socks down and his leg was bleeding. He wanted to find out what it was and didn’t even speak. Ronaldo then just knocked the phone out of my son’s hand and kept walking,” said the boy’s mother, quoted by the DailyMail.

Ronaldo then stated that it is not easy to deal with emotion, especially when he or the team is not doing well.

Objectively, however, it can be noted that this was already beyond not only fair play but also decent behaviour. The Portuguese legend then invited the 14-year-old schoolboy to Old Trafford for their next home game to atone for his April behaviour.
