It’s no secret that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United at any cost. For one simple reason, he wants to play in the Champions League, in which he holds almost every record. So he is starting to negotiate with the club about his departure.

On Tuesday morning, Ronaldo was spotted arriving at Carrington alongside Jorge Mendes, his agent. Indeed, a meeting with coach Erik ten Hag and the Red Devils management is scheduled to take place at Manchester United’s training centre.

The Portuguese phenom wants to leave and is expected to express this wish at today’s meeting. But it won’t be that easy, because there are no takers. Ronaldo, at 37 years old, does not represent a great potential for the future, he is an extremely expensive option and moreover, his playing style must be adapted to make the team successful.

But United want to keep him in the squad and the Hag will try to convince Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford. But that seems very difficult, as Cristiano wants to play his beloved Champions League, where he has been reigning supreme for several years now. Accepting the “B” Europa League is not an option.

A surprising solution

Therefore, an interesting and surprising solution comes into play. There is speculation in England about the possibility of a guest appearance. Ronaldo would go on a year-long loan to a team playing in the Champions League and in exchange would extend his contract until 2024. This is because the Hag includes him in his plans and wants the youngsters to learn from him.

This option could satisfy all parties. Ronaldo would not lose the Champions League for a year and the two sides could meet again in a year’s time, when maybe the Dutch coach will have already dragged the Red Devils to the millionaire competition.

Exit options

Just where could Cristiano go? The author of the most goals in football history has been most associated with Bayern, Chelsea and Atlético. Munich have publicly denied interest in Ronaldo, the Blues and Colchoneros would be interested in the Portuguese, but a transfer would be very difficult.
