Ronaldo lashes out at the younger generation: they can’t take criticism. When I was 18, the words of the elders were sacred

You would be hard pressed to find a footballer in the world who is a bigger hard worker than Cristiano Ronaldo. Hard work has been with him since he was young, add to that talent and an incredible mentality and together it has created one of the best footballers in history.
It’s just that Ronaldo had to work his way up to this status. And although he joined Manchester United at the age of 18 and very soon became a world superstar, he always respected his older and more experienced teammates. But he says that’s not happening now.
“I remember when I was 18 and the older players spoke to me, I took it as a signal that I had to improve because they know more, because they have had many more bad moments in their careers. This new generation in general can’t take criticism. I have kids, so I know that. They do the opposite,” thinks Ronaldo.
“I don’t mean our players now, but in general. You have to find a balance to talk to them. It’s a new year, we have to turn the page. We have a lot of things to win. We have to believe in it or it will be a nightmare,” the Portuguese star added.
“I’m here to help. If they need my support and advice, I will be the first to help them. If they don’t want my help and advice, then let them do their own work. Let them do their best to help the team,” Ronaldo said.
It is unclear whether the 36-year-old striker was aiming his words at any teammates, but fans are clear about that. Most point to Mason Greenwood, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire. It has been reported in the English media in recent weeks that it is the latter two who are unhappy with Ronaldo’s criticism of the team.
This may be the inveterate reason why Manchester United have declined so massively in recent years. It has been waiting for a title since 2013, and any trophy since 2017.
Without criticism and being honest with themselves, they will get nowhere. And if the players don’t have a winning mentality, they will struggle to handle the toughest moments. And if they don’t want to take advice from a man who has won everything in his career and rewritten almost all football records, then it will lead nowhere.
