Manchester United get a valuable point in Bergamo for their 2-2 draw with Atalanta. They were down twice, but Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to keep them up. They remain first in the table.

Manchester could have taken the lead in the fifth minute when Scott McTominay’s shot was knocked onto the bar by the home defence. It was Atalanta who took their first chance. Duvan Zapata found Josip Ilicic and he sent the ball uncompromisingly into the net.

The goal helped Atalanta, they were mentally on top and dominated the following minutes. Zapata had a second goal in the 31st minute, but Eric Bailly made a great save.

In the first half, the visitors equalised. Bruno Fernandes flicked the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo, who had an easy job.

After a change of sides, Zapata gave the home side the lead back. His shot was disallowed for a close offside, but after a two-minute review with his VAR colleagues, he eventually pointed to the centre circle.

Manchester continued to be clueless, and Nemanja Matic’s shot made no difference. It didn’t go in. In the 78th minute, Zapata had an insurance shot and only just missed. And he regretted it.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Ronaldo headed the ball in from a free kick and gave the goalkeeper no chance. The two teams parted with a point.
