That Manchester United only drew 1-1 at Newcastle? That in itself might not have mattered so much. The problem is that the Magpies, experiencing a very poor season, were the better team.
Cristiano Ronaldo put in a below average performance. Of course, he wasn’t the only one who wasn’t having his day, however, instead of trying to turn the outcome of the match, he was constantly gesticulating in a disgruntled and angry manner. In short, he did not take on the role of the leader he is supposed to be.
Therefore, Gary Neville, a club legend and former teammate of Ronaldo, was not spared from harsh criticism. He also mentioned that Ronaldo did not even thank the fans who weighed in on the trip to the north of England.
“It doesn’t matter how you play. You have to get over it and applaud the fans. Especially when you’re the best player in the world and one of the best footballers in history. He ran away to the cabins after the draw with Everton, he ran away at Watford, Norwich and now again,” Neville opined on Monday Night Football.
The former England full-back also stated that it must be devastating for Ronaldo’s young teammates to see the style he and Bruno Fernandes are looking at them with, that they are not good enough.
Both Ronaldo and Fernandes, according to Neville, behave in a superior manner.
It is also worth noting that Ronaldo probably should have seen a red card for his foul in the 57th minute. However, he got away with only a yellow.
