Cristiano Ronaldo has recently stirred up the waters in the footballing environment by being critical of his coach Erik ten Hag, Manchester United management and some former teammates in an interview. Now, the Portuguese striker has defended the timing of his statement.
Needless to elaborate, Cristiano Ronaldo is not experiencing the most successful period of his career. At Manchester United, he sits on the bench and the team is doing extra well without him. The Portuguese footballer is not used to this position and he is not going to just get over it.
He then expressed his feelings in an interview in which he harshly criticised coach Erik ten Hag. He said about his coach that he was trying to drive him away from the club. Moreover, he added that ten Haga does not respect Ronaldo as he does not show respect back to him.
In the interview, Ronaldo wondered about the current level of Manchester United. According to him, the club has stopped in time, which has resulted in it falling short of the best teams in the Premier League. He blamed this on incompetent management.
These words have stirred the waters in world football, especially within Manchester United. The English club is currently having to consider how to deal with the Portuguese footballer. The possibility of an immediate termination of his contract is in play.
Cristiano Ronaldo, however, sees nothing wrong with his interview or its timing. “It is very easy for you to speculate about the timing of my interview. Sometimes you write the truth, sometimes you write lies. I don’t have to worry about what others think of me,” Ronaldo directed this answer to the journalists.
“I will only talk if I want to. Everyone knows who I am and what I believe,” Ronaldo added, adding that the timing of the interview seemed perfectly fine to him.
There was also speculation among journalists that Ronaldo had artificially inflated the whole affair and leaked it to the world to force his exit from the club. But the footballer himself vehemently denies this. However, it is very likely that he will leave the club as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently in Qatar, where he will be fighting with the Portuguese national team for success at the World Cup. He will play his opening match against Ghana on Thursday. It will be a very important tournament for Ronaldo with regard to his future engagements.
