Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic still hold the world record! Messi needs two quick goals to equal it
Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been without question two of the best strikers in the world for several years now, and both enjoy a world record of being able to score in every minute of a match (1-90). What does Lionel Messi need to match this duo?
Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been without question two of the best strikers in the world for several years now, and both enjoy a world record of being able to score in every minute of a match (1-90). What does Lionel Messi need to match this duo?
Scoring a goal in the opening 60 seconds is certainly not easy and one of the best goal scorers in the history of football knows this, and he still needs to score in the 1st and 2nd minutes of the match to equal the aforementioned pair.
Messi then scored his fastest goal in 2018, after 2 minutes and 7 seconds, when he shot past Thibaut Courtois, then still defending Chelsea’s goal, to start a successful night for Barcelona, who beat the Blues 3-0 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League play-offs.
It has to be added that Barcelona’s style is not ideal for scoring quick goals as they try to break down their opponents with endless passes.
Otherwise, however, the Argentine magician is pushing through in every other minute of the game, which of course the vast majority of footballers can only dream of!
Messi’s transfer to PSG, however, could help a lot in this regard. A lower quality league and a different style of play could mean that the 34-year-old striker could catch up with his long-time rival in this statistic too.
However, Lionel is certainly not doing as well in a PSG jersey as Ronaldo has done at Manchester United so far. So far, the Argentine magician has run 190 minutes in the Parisian team’s jersey and has only a yellow card from the duel against Bruges to his credit.
Messi could get his next chance on Wednesday when PSG face Méty, followed by a weekend duel with Montpellier and then a big clash with Manchester City.
