Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku returns to the Chelsea squad. He was dropped from the squad because of an interview he gave to Sky Italia. Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel met with him, the midfielder apologised and is now ready to start again.
Romelu Lukaku gave an interview to the Italian version of Sky Sports in which he phrased sentences that were not appropriate and Chelsea punished him. He missed the weekend’s game against Liverpool. However, the striker felt regret and is now back in the squad ready to start on Wednesday in the cup against Tottenham.
The Belgian met with coach Thomas Tuchel to express his regret and apologise. The Chelsea coach accepted the apology and Lukaku can now rejoin his team’s matches. Everything was confirmed by Tuchel in a press conference.
In an interview with Sky Italia, Lukaku was supposed to complain about Chelsea’s gameplay and say that he is not happy in London and that he would like to return to Inter. However, what he really meant to say was that he would love to return to Inter one day, it wasn’t about the present.
The management of the London team decided to punish their player for giving this interview. He was left out of one game, even though it was important for Chelsea. It was a game against Liverpool. However, the whole situation is resolved.
“He apologised and trained with us again today. We have had enough time to clear things up and move on. The main thing for me is that it was not intentional. He didn’t want to make such a fuss before an important game. He’s emotional, he doesn’t hide his opinions. It was a hype that you don’t want, but there is no doubt about his relationship with the team,” said Thomas Tuchel.
Lukaku could return to the lineup as early as Wednesday’s cup game against Tottenham. It is the semifinal of the English Cup.
