The second Grand Slam tournament of this season is approaching and not only fans, but also tennis players can look forward to it. The tournament management made them happy. Roland Garros is increasing the prizes.
The participants of the famous French Open will divide 43.6 million euros between them this year, or about 1.074 billion in crown currency. Compared to the last normal tournament, which was played before the pandemic in 2019, the prizes have increased by 6.8 percent.
Singles winners will take 1.43 per cent more credit than they would have three years ago. This will take them to a total of €2.2 million.
The prizes in both men’s and women’s doubles are up 6.1 percent, with the winning pairs earning a respectable 580,000 euros. A win in the mixed doubles means a reward of 122,000 euros.
However, the biggest financial allocation will be given to the qualifiers and the losers in the first round. Losing in the first round will earn 62 thousand euros, an increase of 16 thousand compared to 2019.
The qualifiers can then look forward to a 65 percent increase in their rewards compared to 2019, with a 30 percent increase compared to last year.
In this way, Roland Garros wants to support those who have suffered the most during the coronavirus pandemic.
