Roger Federer is eliminated in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. He didn’t even win a set and got caned in the last one. It was his first time ever at the All England Club. In less than two hours he was knocked out by the 24-year-old Polish player Hubert Hurkacz.

Hubert Hurkacz won in a truly phenomenal way, he was better in all elements of the match. Perhaps the Swiss champion never looked so helpless as in the third set. Only the second set was even.

Hurkacz played very well right from the start. He repeatedly showed a great serve and certainly impressed in the game. The Pole almost managed to take Federer’s serve at 2:1. But the Swiss fought back. But a few minutes later he was helpless and it was 2::4 (from his point of view). Hurkacz played great until the end of the set and won it 6::3.

In the second set, Federer was quickly leading 3: 0 and seemed to eventually run over the Polish tennis player sovereignly with such a pace. But Hurkacz showed a strong mind and a cool head and soon it was a draw again, 3: 3. From then on the game was played at an excellent level. In the tie-break, however, the Pole was better and won 7::4. The key was Federer’s slip at 4::2.

Hurkacz had so much wind in his sails after that in the third set that he didn’t stop. He did tussle with the Swiss over both of his serves. But he was more successful each time. From 4:0 onwards, the Swiss tennis player was just finishing the match.

In the semi-finals, the Pole will play the winner of the Matteo Berrettini / Felix Augere-Aliassime match.
