Rodrygo may lose his place at Real Madrid with the arrival of Mbappe. What is his position?

Rodrygo, along with Vinicius and Bellingham, has been dragging Real Madrid along this season. However, Kylian Mbappé will most likely arrive in Madrid in the summer, as well as Brazilian talent Endrick. It may happen that Rodrygo will lose his place in the squad and be sold.

How is Rodrygo doing at Real Madrid?

Rodrygo transferred to Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 from Brazilian side Santos for 45 million euros. He managed to score a goal in the Osasuna net on his debut start in LaLiga, when he only started for 19 minutes. He also scored against Leganés when he started in the starting line-up.

The arrival of Mbappé may make things more difficult for him

However, the arrival of Kylian Mbappe could complicate Rodrygo’s position. The media has been discussing this problem especially during the summer. If Ancelotti were to stick with a line-up with 2 spike strikers, Mbappé and Vinicius would most likely take priority. Joselu, Rodrygo and probably Endrick would be waiting for their chance. That would take the Brazilian back a few years to when he was the replacement for Benzema.

In a 4-3-3 formation, Vinicius and Mbappé would certainly have their place. The question would then remain whether Rodrygo, Brahim or even Valverde would play on the right wing. At a club like Real Madrid, nothing is ever clear. Rodrygo’s position in the team would thus be with a question mark. Maybe Endrick would be preferred as well.

However, Rodrygo would certainly not want to sit on the bench and wait for some injury to his teammates. So a potential transfer could be in play, as Machester City have been interested in the Brazilian striker’s services in the past, and Rodrygo would fit in perfectly with their style.
