Rodrygo finally scores! Real Madrid hopes for his awakening
Rodrygo was supposed to be the number 1 striker after Karim Benzema left Real Madrid. Unfortunately, the Brazilian has been haunted by lapses in scoring form all season. It’s his teammate from both Brazil and Real Madrid, Vinicius Junior, who is far more productive and has been able to break through in multiple games in a row.
Rodrygo opened his scoring account in the new season in the first game against Athletic Bilbao. After just 28 minutes, he beat the home goalkeeper with a shot to the near post.
The fans thought it was a great start to the season in which Rodrygo can live up to all expectations. Unfortunately, the expected goal machine stalled.
Rodrygo followed up that 12 August goal with a goal on 24 October in the Champions League against Braga. In the meantime, Real played another 13 games, during which the Brazilian registered a single assist. He even dropped out of Ancelotti’s starting eleven for a couple of games. Veteran Joselu was also getting more space.
However, subsequently, the Brazilian striker, who complained during one of the national team breaks that he would prefer to play on the wing, was shot. In the 7 games since the Braga game, Rodrygo has scored 8 goals and set up 4 more.
Rodrygo’s current form
Unfortunately, the Brazilian hasn’t lived up to expectations since his November rise. It’s certainly not because he hasn’t tried or doesn’t want to help his teammates. However, he often fails to finish or doesn’t handle the situation in the opponent’s hexagon in the best way.
Before the national break Rodrygo had 7 games without scoring a goal. In those 7 matches Rodrygo registered only 1 assist. As part of a busy schedule, Real Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals of the Champions League and took small steps closer to the championship title.
Rodrygo for Brazil
In both the match against England and the match against Spain, Rodrygo was in the starting line-up. The duel with England didn’t bring much and the only goal was scored by rising star Endrick. For Rodrygo, however, it meant stretching his streak of games without a goal to number 8.
The break of the curse came in the match against Spain. In the 40th minute, goalkeeper Unai Simon made a mistake in the box and the Brazilian striker elegantly flicked the high-flying goalkeeper over. So Real Madrid fans will be hoping their diamond catches the goal saliva again as a crucial phase of the season is on the cards.
