Twenty-seven-year-old Argentine midfielder and Udinese Calcio captain Rodrigo de Paul is already a player for Spanish champions Madrid, according to Fabrizio Romano. He is expected to be unveiled after the Copa America tournament.
The young de Paul started his journey on European turf in Valencia, where he transferred from Argentine Racing. However, he didn’t find much luck there and so in 2016 he moved to Italy, more precisely to Udinese Calcio.
Here he developed into the best player of the team and also the captain. Every year, however, he has to deal with teetering on the edge of relegation. For the time being, they are doing well and since the aforementioned 2016, they have always managed to end up around 13th place.
In his 5 years at the club, de Paul has appeared in 184 games, scoring 34 goals and adding 36 assists. These are by no means impressive numbers, but for a player of an average to below average Serie A side, it’s enough.
The Argentine international’s strongest point is his versatility. During his time in Italy, he has tried almost every offensive position. He has played on both wings, on the top, as well as at number ten, eight and six. Everywhere he was able to give very good performances.
Another notable aspect of his game is his ability to create chances for his teammates. For a long time he has been one of the best players in Europe in this discipline. With better teammates, his numbers could be much better.
Now, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, he is on his way out and his next employer should be Atlético Madrid. The transfer fee is expected to reach 35 million euros and he should be presented immediately after his return from the Copa America.
In a team like Atlético Madrid, de Paul should get the recognition that is due to him. Here, his skills should be on full display and, above all, he should be more visible to football enthusiasts.
