Manchester City have another chance to reach the Champions League final after one year. Last year, Guardiola’s charges ended up on the hoof of Real Madrid players, and they will challenge the same opponent this year.
Manchester City couldn’t get a worse opponent for the Champions League semi-finals. It’s not so much about quality as it is about Real Madrid’s strength in a particular competition.
After all, Los Blancos have dominated the Champions League five of the last nine editions. And while they are sometimes not the better team, they always find a way to advance.
The same thing happened last year. Manchester City were objectively the better team for 180 minutes of the double header. They were 5-3 up going into the final.
But then magic struck at the Santiago Bernabéu. Rodrygo scored twice in the space of two minutes and the Citizens never recovered.
“We played two great games last year, but it wasn’t enough. But we are here to fight again. And with a lot of motivation,” Manchester City midfielder Rodrigo told a news conference.
“We respect Real Madrid. They are the kings of the competition. But we also have our weapons and they know it, ” the Spanish midfielder said.
Manchester City is banking on having a great year. Compared to past seasons, however, it has something that has often been lacking. Reliable goal scorer Erling Haaland.
“We are in a good moment. We have respect for them and nothing will be decided tomorrow. We have our weapons and we believe 100% that we can qualify for the final,” Rodri added.
