Joel Embiid once again showed everyone that when he is not limited by his health, he is one of the best basketball players in the world. He was the best player of the game and orchestrated his team’s win at the Wells Fargo Center. Thanks to him, Philadelphia scored its 45th win of the season and secured the playoffs.
Philadelphia outplayed its opponent from Detroit 120:102. Joel Embiid, the reigning two-time leading scorer and last season’s MVP , returned to the lineup after a one-game absence.
He was a perfect replacement for Tyrese Maxey, who set a personal best with 52 points in the last game. However, in this game he was spared because of minor health problems. Embiid spent 35:49 minutes on the floor.
With 37 points, he was the top scorer of the game, and he even attacked the triple-double line. He also had 11 rebounds under the basket and just two assists short of double figures in three different stats.
He also complemented his great performance with 3 steals and two blocked shots. So Embiid is having a bit of a contradictory season. He was still clearly heading for his third King of Scorers crown by the middle of this season, as he also made history with a 70 point performance and was heading for his second MVP of the season.
However, a lingering injury, specifically a meniscus injury, ruined everything, which resulted in subsequent surgery and he missed a significant portion of games. Moreover, according to NBA rules, if he misses more than 15 games in a season, he cannot aspire for any regular season trophy.
However, after undergoing the surgery, he promised Philadelphia fans that he would try to get his act together by the end of the regular season and help his unit, which was losing to much weaker opponents in his absence.
In this game, even though Detroit is not one of the strong teams, he indicated that he is getting into his usual form and it is only a matter of time before he will again shower the basket of his opponents with a huge portion of points.
With 34.8 points per game, Embiid has the best scoring average of his career so far, and he’s averaging 11 rebounds per game. However, his shooting average is not counted in the shooting stats due to NBA rules and therefore the crown of the premiere scorer will go to Luka Doncic.
