Representation is the most important thing, Korab forward Milan Šídlo looks forward to the camp

The players of Prague Koráb did unusually well in the autumn part of the Superleague of small football. They are second in the western group, yet they have fifteen points as the leader Příbram. It is no wonder that four representatives of Korab, led by Milan Šídl, made it to the Czech national team camp.

The 22-year-old forward has scored seven goals and added five assists in six autumn games. “Team-wise we are successful, which of course we are all happy about. It’s a team sport. On the personal side, I see some shortcomings,” Šídlo said modestly.

From Thursday to Monday, the national team’s preparatory camp, to which he received an invitation, will take place at the Podještěd Sports Complex in Český Dub. “I am excited. It is an honour to play for the Czech national team. It’s the best thing that can happen to an athlete,” the talented footballer gushes.

In the autumn, the national team’s creators watched him directly in super league matches, yet Šídl’s nomination came as a surprise. “I certainly didn’t expect to be in it. I saw that people from the national team came to watch the game, which of course makes everyone even more excited. They sense an opportunity to break into the team when they are there,” he admits.

Besides him, Korab also got goalkeeper Jakub Stehn, captain Michal Vávra and David Macháček. “It will be something new for me and it will help to have the guys there. I’m glad, at least I have someone to lean on,” Šídlo said.

In addition to the training sessions, the Czech national team will also play against Ukraine and England. “I haven’t asked any questions yet, but I know the schedule. I’m looking forward to it and at the same time I’m a bit nervous,” he confirms.

Last season he only played in the Superliga of small football under 23, and he has only been among the Czech elite since the autumn. “I’m actively playing for the first year, before that I had a lot and didn’t go,” he explains.

With seven goals and five assists, he is the sixth highest scoring player of the autumn, and so far he has fulfilled the role of goal scorer without a hitch. “I’m still young and I’m getting some advice from the guys, they’re respectful to me. Everyone on the team, both coaches and players, are helping me,” he appreciates.

Korab finished last year’s Super League season in third position. This season, he is aiming higher. “We want to win the competition like everyone else. I don’t know what the level of the eastern group is at all, but according to the statistics I follow individuals like Ondra Pader. It’s going to be very difficult, we’ll come up against some great guys,” Šídlo realizes.
