Replacement for Zinchenko found! Manchester City has a new left-back

Manchester City footballers can look forward to a new teammate. After Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure and Marco Cucurella’s failed transfer attempt, Pep Guardiola is looking for reinforcements after all. That was young Sergio Gómez from Spain, who signed a four-year contract in England after leaving Anderlecht.

the 21-year-old defender comes mainly as a replacement to Joao Cancel, who was on his own at left-back. The Barcelona ward could be in action very soon, precisely because of the smaller number of players in his position at the Citizens.

“I am incredibly proud and happy to join Manchester City,” the Spanish defender told the club’s website. “To be part of this club is a dream come true,” he added. He also spoke about the special importance of Pep Guardiola and his coaching style.

Gómez has already travelled to several countries in his relatively short career. He even made one start for Dortmund in the Champions League during his German stint. This game, moreover, was played as a fresh adult.

He then moved to Spain, where he helped Huesca to promotion back to the elite. He eventually played two seasons and 68 games for the Spanish team with a record of 1+4. He fared much better after his transfer to Belgium.

At Anderlecht he managed to collect 22 points in 45 games last season. That’s also why he earned a place with the team that would like to score a golden hat-trick in the Premier League this season. And he’d like to triumph in the Champions League for the first time ever.

It’s clear that João Cancelo will be preferred at left-back in most cases. Even so, we will probably soon see the Spanish defender in action, whose compatriot Marc Cucurella ended up at Chelsea in London instead of Machester.
