Tomáš Řepka, former stopper of Sparta Prague, but also of Fiorentina or West Ham, is no longer playing football, but still plays at amateur level in Janovice. He was involved in a scuffle during a cup match at the weekend.
In his professional career, Řepka has played almost 100 games in Serie A for Fiorentina. He also played in the Premier League for West Ham United, where he played 167 games. However, Czech fans know him most from his time at Sparta.
He played 82 games for Sparta between 1995 and 1998. He then returned to Sparta in 2006 and worked there until 2011, when he managed to play 130 competitive matches. He won four league titles with Sparta.
In recent years he has been playing amateur competition for Sokol Červené Janovice. Řepka was known for his excesses and his hard play. For example, in 2007 on the field of Teplice, Řepka was sent off in the last minutes of the game and hit the cameraman on the way to the booths.
Over the weekend, Řepka confirmed that he is still a boisterous player even after his professional career is over. In the derby against Uhlířské Janovice, his teammate and former Sparta Prague player Václav Kadlec was fouled. Řepka did not like this and provoked a scuffle, where he was once again at the centre of the action.
“What I am, and always will be, allergic to is when someone wants to deliberately hurt my teammate. Especially Václav Kadlec! I will always defend my players at all costs. I am and will be Řepka and I will not change!” wrote Řepka on his Instagram account after the match.
Red Janovice drew 2:2. However, after the penalty shootout, which ended in a respectable 12:11, they lost to their opponents.
