Remarkable performance of Roman Stanek! How did the Czech driver finish in the post-season Formula 2 tests?
After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, not only the Formula 1 season is over, but also the Formula 2 season, to which the Czech driver Roman Stanek is moving from Formula 3! He took part in all three test days, and as a newcomer to F2 he recorded some truly remarkable performances.
After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, not only the Formula 1 season is over, but also the Formula 2 season, to which the Czech driver Roman Stanek is moving from Formula 3! However, the roar of the engines did not die down as F2 had post-season tests on the agenda. Stanek took part in all three days of testing, and as a newcomer to F2, his performance was truly remarkable.
On Wednesday, November 23, the first post-season tests of F2 took place, of course with a new starting grid. Roman Staněk started for the Trident team and took part in both tests.
And despite being a newcomer to Formula 2, Stanek finished a very respectable ninth in the opening tests. And it should be noted that Stanek’s time beat that of teammate Clément Novalak.
Novalak is already confirmed with Trident for next season, having raced alongside Felipe Drugovich in this year’s MP Motorsport championship team.
In the morning session, the Czech driver placed seventh with a time of 1:37.018, 0.197 seconds behind winner Dennis Hauger. In the afternoon the track got faster and the whole starting field started to improve. Stanek finished eighth with a time of 1::36.923, 0.528 seconds behind first place Richard Verschoor.
Czech driver’s comments on the first test
“I am satisfied with today. We have been working on qualifying and race pace and slowly
we are getting to where we want to be.
The last improvement is always the hardest, but I’m really enjoying it. The big difference between Formula 3 and Formula 2 is the weight of the car and also the way it behaves,” Stanek said in an official press release after the first day.
“For example, at high speeds there is much more downforce. There are a lot of new things, today I was learning pitstops and how the car works in general, but I have the team helping me with everything and I feel great. The team also has the same manager as we had in F3, Giacomo Ricci, who makes everything easier for me,” he explained.
The second and third day
In the morning session of the second day of the post-season tests, Stanek was only eighteenth with a time of 1:37.152, and he ended the test day number two in ninth place, one second and 472 thousandths of a second behind the winner Frederik Vesti.
Stanek finished day three in nineteenth place, the winner of the last runs was Victor Martins, who will form a driver pair with Théo Pourchaire next season.
