Patrick Kane out for Detroit
In the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Detroit Red Wings game (2:4), the visiting team was successful, but one of the Red Wings’ best players, Patrick Kane, had to leave the game during the first period. He spent just over a minute on the ice.
And that’s because he took two hard hits on the boards during the second shift in the first period. Specifically from Swedish player Pontus Holmberg. He left the game immediately, suffering a lower body injury.
Kane signed with the Red Wings as a free agent after a difficult hip surgery and put on a great performance. However, it is not yet known how long he will be out of the game, which is understandably a big complication for the Detroit team.
The biggest contributors to the Red Wings win were Dylan Larkin, who had a goal and an assist, and the returning James Reimer. The latter last caught the puck on December 27th of last year. Reimer played his first six seasons in the NHL for the Maple Leafs. He made 28 saves in the game and had a hit success rate of over 93 percent.
Marner has his 600th NHL point
Mitchell Marner scored late in the second period to give the Maple Leafs the lead for the last time (2:1), but the Red Wings turned the game around with three goals in the final period. At least a small consolation for the Canadian player is that he reached his 600th point in the regular season in his 548th game.
Moreover, he reached this milestone the fastest in Toronto Maple Leafs franchise history. Until now, the record was held by club legend Darryl Sittler, who needed to play 36 more games to reach the mark.
And the third fastest man in Toronto’s history is its longtime captain and Swedish Hockey Hall of Fame member Mats Sundin, who did it in 601 duels.
The Rangers avenged their loss to the Capitals on their home ice
New York Rangers defeated Washington 2: 1. The Rangers avenged their 24-hour defeat. For the second game in a row, the Capitals had to do without Alexander Ovechkin, who is nursing an injury. Artemi Panarin scored the Rangers’ opening goal in the first minute of the game.
It was his 400th point with the Rangers. He reached this mark the fastest in franchise history, as he needed to play only 310 games. Alexis Lafreniére scored the winning goal in the 20th minute.
