Saturday’s qualifying for Sunday’s Grand Prix is currently underway in Saudi Arabia. Halfway through, however, red flags flew on the circuit and qualifying was immediately halted. Mick Schumacher crashed hard and had to be ejected from his car.
The big accident halted Saturday’s performance in Saudi Arabia at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
Mick Schumacher crashed very hard in turn 12. An ambulance and a medical car had to come for the German Haas driver, who had to be escorted out of his car.
Schumacher was immediately taken to the medical centre where he underwent a detailed medical examination. This was the second red flag in qualifying. In the first part, Nicholas Latifi crashed his Williams, specifically at turn 13.
However, the Haas monopoly is so badly damaged that it is very unlikely to be able to take part in Sunday’s grand prix.
The gearbox, the engine – these are parts that are very difficult to repair and ultimately very expensive. And that’s not all, team boss Guenther Steiner has said that mechanics have to carry out a full inspection of the entire car, and the repairs will be very extensive.
However, according to the latest information, Schumacher should be fine. He even gave an interview to F1 TV after the inspection, in which he described that he was understandably shaken up after the impact, but the medical examination revealed no serious health problem.
Nevertheless, Schumacher will be taken to hospital for X-rays and further observation.
After all the dirt and debris on the track has been removed, qualifying will restart, but it has already produced one shocking result – Lewis Hamilton did not even make it out of the first session and will start from 16th position.
