Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz continues his truly appalling performance. After accidents in Australia and Imola, Sainz adds another incident, this time in Miami. So take a look at his accident from the second free practice session.
In Australia, Sainz first encountered some very bad luck indeed. He lost his fast time in qualifying due to the red flags being displayed as a result of Alonso’s accident, and he only completed two laps in the race, sending his Ferrari into a duck, from which he was unable to get back on the track.
Sainz was “escorted out” of the recent Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna at the Imola circuit by Daniel Ricciardo in the McLaren. The contact left Sainz in a duck again, with the Imola race ending for him on the first lap.
So the race weekend in Miami means a restart not just for him, but for Ferrari as a whole. It should be noted, after the opening practice, it didn’t look bad at all.
Charles Leclerc took the win in FP1, with Spain’s Sainz finishing sixth. The second practice also went well for Leclerc, with the Monegasque finishing his FP2 stint in second position.
However, Sainz did not finish the second practice. The 27-year-old Ferrari driver lost control of his car at Turn 14 and crashed badly.
Sainz’s Ferrari will need new parts again, but the team will again be missing data from practice. The confidence of the second driver of the Italian team has suffered another blow.
Red flags immediately flew at the Miami circuit. You can also see the final FP2 results in the attached Twitter post below.
The third and final free practice session will start today, May 7, specifically from 7pm to 8pm. Saturday’s action will then conclude with qualifying, which as usual will determine the order of finish for the start of Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix.
Qualifying is scheduled for 22:00 and judging by the results so far, it will certainly be something to watch.
