United are celebrating at least some success. This is because they successfully appealed against the Portuguese midfielder’s red card. After United filed an appeal on Monday, the FA decided to overturn the red card as reported by ESPN.

After a thorough review, the decision has been reversed and Fernandes will not be suspended. He will thus be available for Manchester United’s next three Premier League games against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham.

Fernandes on the incident

Fernandes was shown a red card after a foul on Maddison in the first half against Tottenham Hotspur. During the foul, the Portuguese midfielder apparently slipped and hit Maddison with his foot. Referee Kavanagh immediately showed a red card, which was backed up on VAR by Brooks.

Fernandes, however, defended himself by saying Maddison had said it was not a red card. “I think everyone could see it was never a red card. If this is a red card, we need to review many other incidents,” Fernandes said.

“I have had many incidents where I have been hit, but I have never seen such a quick decision on a red card. I just don’t think it was a red card,” he added.

Erik ten Haag on the red card

United manager Ten Haag must be relieved. After the game, he said that the red card significantly affected the course of the game against Tottenham.

“I don’t think this was a red card. Should VAR have intervened? I don’t want to judge and I don’t want to comment. The referee gave him a red card. I have my opinion and it will not change,” added the Manchester United coach.
