When the phrase Karel Poborský and a beautiful goal is uttered, almost every fan remembers the incredible goal scored by Portugal at Euro 96. But the former national midfielder scored more beautiful goals and one of them was an incredible solo goal against Braga.
The former national team player has faced a lot of criticism from the footballing public in the recent past. This was due to his candidacy for the FAČR presidency and many accused him of not wanting to make radical changes in Czech football and of more or less standing behind the old structures.
Maybe it is true, maybe it is not, but in any case Czechs should not forget his football years, which were extraordinary. He was, after all, the only player of Czech origin to have had a peek at the famous Manchester United!
Karel Poborský was an exceptional footballer, it is hard to find a similar Czech player in contemporary football. He was quick, fast and had a great overview at the same time.
Solo goal against Braga 1998
In 1998 Poborský joined Benfica Lisbon, to which he transferred from the aforementioned Manchester United. The Portuguese giant shelled out $5 million for the Czech international (big money back then).
Fans soon fell in love with him and one of his goals made the legendary Diego Maradona come to mind. Yes, this is what a Czech footballer did! Check it out!
Even though the native of Jindřichův Hradec did well in Benfica, he didn’t win any trophies in Portugal.
