Real Madrid have had a lot of successful transfers in recent years. However, there is a transfer period that fans of the Spanish big club do not remember in the best way.
Florentino Pérez has decided to invest a lot of money in the club in 2019, bringing Zinedine Zidane two new offensive guns for which the club spent almost 200 million euros.
We are talking, of course, about the pair of Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic. Expectations were huge. Not to be. Eden Hazard was one of the best players on the planet at the time and even with the number seven on his back, he was supposed to be the clear offensive leader of his new club.
His engagement ended after four years when he agreed to terminate his contract with the club, with only six goals scored. Things didn’t go much better for the Serbian striker.
Jovic was scouted by Real Madrid as a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema, who was already thirty-one years old at the time of his arrival and few expected his best years were yet to come.
No wonder the young marksman has earned the attention of the Royal Club. During the 2018/2019 season, he managed to score a total of 27 goals and add another 7 assists. However, he hasn’t come close to those numbers in the sum of all the following seasons so far.
His time at Real Madrid has been hampered by various injuries, as well as the limited minutes the Serbian footballer has been receiving. In addition, he often operated on the pitch without any interest and appetite for the game. He lacked spark.
Even a loan spell back at Frankfurt didn’t help to restore his form, so last year he moved to Fiorentina in Italy for good, completely for free. Real Madrid were hoping to reawaken the dreaded goalscorer in Luka Jovic, so they retained the right to earn 50% of the proceeds of any further sale.
The Serbian is now moving to AC Milan, who, however, have not paid a penny for him. Fiorentina, to the misfortune of Real Madrid, decided to release him completely for free.
