- Real Madrid win 2-0 at San Sebastian in LaLiga
- Both goals came from penalty kicks, converted by Vini Jr. and Mbappé
- Coach Ancelotti is beginning to praise the improving cooperation
The Spanish champion traveled to the Basque city of San Sebastian as the second team in the LaLiga table. However, Real were already four points behind Barcelona after just four rounds, so it was a must-win against Real Sociedad, Plzeň’s rivals in the Europa League.
“It was a complicated match and we probably didn’t deserve to win because Real Sociedad played very well, but we held on, we were patient and determined, which I appreciate very much,” White Ballet coach Carlo Ancelotti told the club’s website after the 2-0 win.
The Italian was finally able to celebrate with his charges after two penalties. Vinícius Júnior and his strike partner Kylian Mbappé scored the winner for Real Madrid. Real are now within one point of Barcelona in the table. However, the Catalans have a game in Girona to play.
Vini Jr. and Mbappé shared the penalty kicks
The big topic before the game was the cooperation of the star strikers of the Madrid team. Indeed, the Brazilian duo of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo were complemented by Frenchman Kylian Mbappé before the season, as expected. Their interplay, however, has been below expectations in the first four rounds of LaLiga.
“We try to look for each other in training to create the right combination to help the team. He is a great player and I am happy to play with him at Real Madrid. The important thing is scoring goals, not who takes the penalty,” Mbappé said after the game on Vini Júnior’s behalf.
It was the Frenchman who looked much fresher in the match than the 24-year-old Brazilian. He was often able to tear apart the opposition’s defence and had several other chances in addition to the converted penalty. Ancelotti also praised his new charge.
“He looks fresher and more active. He is very dangerous on the ball, he is improving a lot and I really liked his play tonight. He is also starting to complement Vini Jr. very well,” the Italian strategist saw the improving cooperation of his biggest stars.
