The battle for the second league is at its peak in Spain. In the play-offs, the B-teams of Real Madrid and Barcelona clashed in the semi-finals, and the “mini El Clásico” offered a great momentum and a turnaround for Los Blancos.
Spain’s third top competition, Primera RFEF, has two groups, from which only the winners advance directly to La Liga. The first group was won by Ferrol, the second by Amorebieta.
The second to fifth-placed teams then qualify for the play-offs. This time, Alcorcon, Real Madrid B, La Coruña and Celta Vigo B from Group A, Eldense, Castellon, Barcelona B and Real Sociedad B from the second group have secured the opportunity to dig themselves out of the play-offs.
The winners of the four matches will advance to the final, from which two qualifiers will emerge. Our position in the table has given us a clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the first round.
Barcelona had the upper hand in the first duel in Catalonia. Real went ahead thanks to Paz, but the Blaugranas turned the score around before half-time after goals from Riada and Fernandez.
In the second half, Dotor equalised from the penalty spot to make it 2:2, but Cruiz Luismi scored twice in four minutes to give Barcelona a comfortable 4:2 lead going into the return leg.
But if any club is the king of “rebuilds”, i.e. big turnovers, it is Real Madrid. The youngsters in white jerseys were very determined to turn the tide and the grass was literally burning under them.
Dotor opened the scoring in the 21st minute, after which Real pressed for a long time but the goal was not forthcoming. It was not until the 78th minute that Iker Bravo pounced on a centre and headed home to level the match.
But it was not enough for Real and they pressed on. The Barcelona players were completely confused at that moment and practically couldn’t get the ball into the opponent’s half.
A lot of pressure culminated in a corner kick in the 95th minute, after which a Barcelona defender senselessly slapped the ball over his head with his hand and a penalty was kicked. It was converted by leader Sergio Arribas and there was a chance to celebrate with the fans, with the Real youngsters jumping the fence as well.
