Real Madrid will reportedly go for Alphonso Davies next year. He plans to apply the same strategy as he did with Kroos

Real Madrid continue to look for ways to strengthen the left side of the defence. For next year, it has eyed Alphonso Davies, who still has not extended his contract with Bayern Munich, which expires in 2025.

After the decline of Marcelo, Real Madrid’s management still hasn’t found a player who can reliably conquer the left edge of defence for themselves. Ferland Mendy is one of the best left backs defensively, but his offensive support is pretty weak.

That’s why Fran García returned in the summer and so far, thanks to Mendy’s injury, he has started every La Liga game in the starting lineup. He gives an honest, trying performance, but you can see maybe a slight nervousness and here and there some mistakes.

With Mendy’s constant injuries, plus little offensive production, the club wants to get rid of the Frenchman. So they will need a new left back. And he’s looking for one of the best.

At Bayern Munich, Real liked Alphonso Davies. The 22-year-old has said that he doesn’t like life in Munich, feels lonely and doesn’t have many friends.

For the umpteenth time, he has refused to renew his contract, which expires in the summer of 2025. He has a lot of experience in this.

In 2014, Toni Kroos was a year short of the end of his contract and refused to extend. Bayern knew they had to let him go for a certain amount of money right away or he would leave for free in a year. So Real brought in one of the best midfielders in history for just €25 million. An absolutely ridiculous amount for such a quality player and the German ranks among the best transfers Real Madrid have ever made.

Florentino Pérez wants to apply the same strategy with Davies next year. After all, acquiring a player a year before the end of his contract is quite popular. He did so in 2018 with Thibaut Courtois and a year later with Eden Hazard.

He had the same plan with Kylian Mbappé in the summer of 2021 and now, but with PSG and the French striker, negotiations are practically impossible.

Moreover, Real Madrid have a very good relationship with Bayern. The last time David Alaba left the Allianz Arena for Madrid for free at the end of his contract, which the Bavarians respected. Xabi Alonso, James Rodriguez, Álvaro Odriozola, Hamit Altintop and Arjen Robben have also swapped between Munich and Madrid in recent years.
