Real Madrid only drew 1-1 with Mallorca in the first round. Mbappé was almost invisible
Real had their first competitive La Liga game on Sunday night. They played Mallorca, who finished 15th last season. The defending champions asserted themselves right from the start, but unfortunately it was not enough for them to win. In the second half, Mallorca came out on top for the first time and managed to equalise.

The score didn’t change, but in the 7th minute of the second half Ferland Mendy was sent off for a completely unnecessary tackle.
- A surprising loss of points early on
- Invisible Mbappé?
- Ferland Mendy’s red card
Progress of the match
Right from the start of the game, Rodrygo got through with a beautiful wraparound to the back post and it looked like a quick process from the Galacticos. But the opposite was true, Mallorca put in a really great performance and managed to create their own rather dangerous chances.
Muriqi had a great chance in the 42nd minute, finishing from a yard out, but Courtois was up against it and then Rudiger kicked the ball off the line. However, not much more happened in the first half and that’s why the Islanders still nurtured their hopes of an acceptable result.
Second half
The home side had a good start to the second half when they won a corner kick right from the start and then struck from it to level the game at 1-1 in the 53rd minute. Vedat Muriqi scored a header to add his first goal to the statistics this season.
In the 70th minute, Kylian Mbappé had a good chance, but Slovak goalkeeper Dominik Greif intervened brilliantly.
In the very end of the match, the Islanders team was on the break, but a nasty tackle stopped the counter attack by Fernand Mendy, who was shown a red card. Mendy hit Muriqi with a peg to the thigh of a fully running Muriqi.
So Real Madrid snatched the points right from the start of the season and drew with Malloca. That certainly wasn’t the plan given the packed Galaktikos squad, but it’s still only the start of the season and it means absolutely nothing.
Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid?
Mbappé’s performance in his first official game for the White Ballet against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup final was excellent. Real won 2: 0 and Mbappé came through, so Mbappé already has his first trophy at international club level and would love to follow it up this season.
But the first Spanish league game was a bit of a different story. A different style of football, an outdoor environment, high expectations. It can’t quite be said that Mbappé’s performance was a disaster, but given the expectations, something else was certainly expected.
He wasn’t visible for most of the game, but when he was it was dangerous. It will probably take him a while to get used to Spanish football, but this draw certainly won’t take away from his confidence.
