The long wait for Real Madrid fans has finally come to an end. No longer will we experience the Champions League atmosphere from the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium. Yes, it often seemed crazy to host a semi-final against Chelsea on a pitch for six thousand spectators. But what could the management do? Bouncing back to rivals Atlético Madrid was absolutely unacceptable. And kicking something off on a chaotic site would be like throwing peas at the wall.

Now dreams are becoming a reality. From the newly renovated home of the White Ballet, they’re calling it done! The stadium’s official opening date is now known. So we have nothing to look forward to but September 11th. The day when all football fans will be welcomed to one of the most modern stadiums in the world.

The nearly CZK 21 billion stadium will make its debut in the Spanish La Liga against Celta Vigo. In a modern coat and on better-kept turf than Buckingham Palace. Just imagine the beauty that will abound in the football stand.

There is one interesting fact worth noting. The huge redevelopment has added absolutely no extra space. From the original 80,243 seats, there’s even one less. Instead of thoughts of competing with Camp Nou, everything has a rather comical ending. But that doesn’t change the amazing structure that will write football stories for decades to come.

On the newly repaired site stands a colossus that features a retractable roof along its entire length. That roof was planned back in the 80’s, unfortunately due to finances everything was always scrapped. Among other things, it also comes in a more oval shape that doesn’t look so much like the square rectangle it lived with for 73 years.

In addition to a few places to eat or buy souvenirs, the president of Real Madrid wanted to build a hotel with a shopping mall inside! To everyone’s surprise, his idea was rejected. This, the club says, will improve the revenue streams, efficiency and longevity.

The richest sports team in the world is entering the new era of Los Blancos with great elegance. And with a desire to prove that it wants to capitalise on its finances with great comfort for its fans.

It should be noted, however, that the modernization of the stadium will continue until at least next summer.
