Most of Europe’s leading clubs are now returning to pre-season training and that means one thing. To get fit as soon as possible before the start of the new season.
Real Madrid’s players have also returned to training, with Antonio Pintus in charge. The man who is the secret of his club’s success.
The 60-year-old Italian is a member of Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff. He boasts several university professions that help and enable him to apply scientific research to his physical development plans.
He studies and publishes scientific research in sports medicine. Where traditional coaching and advances in sports science intersect, he tries to find ways to innovate and implement them into his methods.
He is downright obsessive in finding ways to not overload his players, increase their endurance and reduce injuries. In 2016, he released a study that focused on the physical stresses young footballers face and balancing their training to minimize the risk of injury.
Pintus earned the nickname “Iron Sergeant ” in Spain. He prides himself on discipline, hard and honest work. However, he never makes excessive demands and his training plan is designed to avoid overloading and increasing the risk of injury to his charges.
The experienced coach returned to Madrid in 2021 due to a very large and frequent staff. He was supposed to be the one who would find the right way to get the Real Madrid footballers in great physical condition. He did.
Pintus’ method of training allows the footballers to subsequently perform at their best for the full ninety minutes on the pitch.
Looking back at Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign in the previous season, when they managed to come back from the dead several times, many people likened it to luck or chance. No doubt that also played a role, but this is the result of hard work, great work and Antonio Pintus’ preparedness.
In the 2021/22 edition, it was the Real Madrid players who scored the most goals in the last fifteen minutes of a game out of all of Europe.
Antonio Pintus was also part of Zinedine Zidane’s coaching team when the White Ballet sensationally dominated the Champions League three times in a row.
Both the club and himself try to keep his training methods secret. However, looking at photos from the first training session after returning to training, it is clear that the players are now getting properly fit and Jude Bellingham’s first days at Real Madrid are suffering considerably.
