Eden Hazard is injured again and will be out until at least the beginning of May. He hasn’t even played 1000 minutes this season. Real Madrid are slowly giving up hope of ever recouping the money they spent on the Belgian. What is the Spanish giant going to do about it?
It was July 2019, Real Madrid brought in a new star signing. Eden Hazard arrived from Chelsea at the Santiago Bernabeu for the astronomical sum of 115 million euros. Gradually, he was supposed to become the new leader of the team, only it never happened.
In all likelihood, the scenario outlined above will never come to fruition. Since his arrival in Spain, the 31-year-old Belgian has been plagued by one injury after another. More or less he hasn’t played more than he has. Of course, that can’t please anyone.
In three seasons in a Real Madrid jersey, Hazard has appeared in 65 competitive games, scoring only 6 goals and adding 10 assists. Moreover, his value has dropped to just €16 million according to Transfermarkt.
The Belgian has not even managed to play 1000 minutes this season. He spent only 877 minutes on the pitch, scoring just one goal and 2 assists in the 22 games he played. The club’s management has slowly stopped counting on him.
Hazard has a contract at Real Madrid until 2024, but his sale is not worth it for the club. So the plan is different. Send him on loan and hope that he will avoid injuries and show at least part of the qualities that earned him the transfer to Madrid.
The question arises as to why anyone would ever want a player who has rather flopped the last three seasons on loan. Moreover, with the Belgian commanding a hefty salary at Real Madrid. However, the club is counting on having to contribute to Hazard’s salary if he is released on loan.
In a case like this, it could even pay off, no one could lose anything by this move. But how much interest will there be in Hazard?
