It was not a day that the fans of the White Ballet would like to remember. Their club lost 2-3 at home to Villarreal, but the result itself was overshadowed by events that took place after the game.
Federico Valverde attacked Álex Baena. Not without reason, of course, or because he could not bear the bitterness of defeat. The yellow submarine footballer should have teased the Uruguayan midfielder about his unborn child.
Before the Copa del Rey match in January, it was revealed that Valverde was going through a difficult time in his personal life. His pregnant partner had a complicated pregnancy and the couple were in danger of losing their unborn child.
Álex Baena took advantage of the situation and tried to unsettle his rival with taunting insinuations. The Real Madrid footballer still got over it, but the taunts were to be repeated during the next encounter.
Federico Valverde waited for his opponent after the match and punched him in the face in the parking lot. Baena subsequently decided to report the whole incident and the young midfielder was facing a very long suspension, which could have gone up to twelve games.
Now, however, it seems that the whole of Real Madrid can breathe a sigh of relief. According to the latest information, Valverde’s punishment should be lifted altogether.
There are serious discrepancies in Álex Baena’s statement in relation to what the cameras recorded at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The quick-footed and tireless midfielder will thus be available to Carlo Ancelotti immediately from the opening match, which Real Madrid will play at Athletic Bilbao.
