Carlo Ancelotti will take over the Brazilian national football team in a year’s time, which means Real Madrid must start looking for a new coach. There are several interesting options in play, but there is no clarity and probably won’t be for some time.

There was already speculation about his future last season. According to the Spanish media, Carlo Ancelotti was supposed to be in a tight spot. There was a threat that he could lose his contract. After all, this was what Brazil football was waiting for, who wanted him to join the national team.

However, the Italian strategist has one more year on his contract at Real Madrid and once it expires, he will finally actually move to South America. But what will happen to the Spanish big club? There are several scenarios in play.

What are the possibilities?

If Real Madrid would like to avoid bringing in coaches from other clubs, they have fairly limited options. The most logical one, however, would be Julian Nagelsmann, who is no longer coaching Bayern Munich and has great potential going forward.

Nagelsmann has been linked with the Spanish giant on several occasions in the past, however, previously it would have been a risk for both parties. The German has not coached any big club before, Real Madrid could be too big a bite for him and blight the rest of his career. However, he has now proven himself at Bayern, has learned to perform under pressure and could be a long shot for years to come.

Antonio Conte is also among the most interesting and best coaches who are currently without a job. While this is not a very likely option, the possibility is there for Real Madrid. He should have been close to this stint back in 2018.

Zinedine Zidane, who has already had two coaching and grand stints at the Santiago Bernabeu, is also still without an engagement. Until recently, he was linked with taking over Juventus, but speculation has died down in recent weeks. However, if all available options fail, he could be the right choice again.

Besides, Real Madrid could choose a risky move and use someone from their own resources. There was already talk earlier that the legendary Raúl González Blanco, who has been leading the reserve team since 2019 and hasn’t performed badly at all, could take over the A-team. Although he doesn’t have a lot of experience, more coaches haven’t had that when taking over a big club. Plus, it wouldn’t cost the club anything. Álvaro Arbeloa is a similar case, who leads the under-19 selection.

Of the coaches now leading other clubs, the most realistic interest seems to be in another club legend. Xabi Alonso is gaining coaching experience in adult football while managing Bayer Leverkusen, where he has been in charge of Patrik Schick and Adam Hložek, among others.

Alonso managed to pull Leverkusen out of a giant slump, taking them from second to last place to sixth, and instilled an attractive style of football in the team. According to several Spanish media, he is the front-runner to take over Real Madrid.
