Rashford as Messi’s replacement? If the famous Argentine doesn’t extend, PSG has a plan B in place

It’s one of the big themes of recent times. Whether PSG will be able to extend the Argentine playing legend’s current contract is a big question. It’s one of the big themes of recent times. Whether PSG will be able to extend the Argentine playing legend’s current contract is a big question. After all, Lionel Messi is only under contract at the Parisian club until the end of June this year. If the two sides fail to reach an agreement, PSG has a number of alternatives in its sights.

The famous Argentine transferred to PSG in August 2021 from Barcelona, due to the financial problems of the Catalan giant. During that time in the Parisian club’s jersey, he has featured in 57 games across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and assisting in 29 more.

Last but not least, he won the championship title with PSG in the 2021/22 season and also won the French Super Cup in the current season.

And let’s not forget that Messi won the last trophy missing from his showcase of achievements last December. And that was the gold at the World Cup.

For PSG, the main goal will be Messi’s signature, but if this does not happen and the Rosario native decides to leave, the management of the Parisian club has one main alternative in mind.

Marcus Rashford to PSG?

According to El Nacional newspaper, PSG have chosen Marcus Rashford from Manchester United as the ideal replacement for the potentially departed Messi, for whom PSG are prepared to send €75 million to Old Trafford.

He has appeared in 20 games for the Red Devils in the current league season, in which he has already scored nine goals and added three assists. He has added a further five goals in five EFL Cup games, one in the FA Cup and three in the Europa League.

In early December last year, the Old Trafford club extended the England international’s contract by one year to ward off developing interest from PSG. However, the player has not yet started negotiations for a new contract, leaving the door open for a future transfer.

More Eindhoven signings

But Rashford is not the only player in PSG’s sights. The French giant is also interested in PSV’s 19-year-old striker Johan Bakayoko. He has played 19 games so far in the 2022/23 campaign at his current club with a 5+1 record.
