Rangnick will lead the Austrian national team after the season. But he won’t be leaving Manchester United completely!
Ralf Rangnick’s next fate will be with the Austrian national team, having already made it clear that coach Erik ten Hag will occupy the bench at Old Trafford after the season. The German coach will, however, continue to work in Manchester.
Ralf Rangnick’s next fate will be with the Austrian national team, having already made it clear that coach Erik ten Hag will occupy the bench at Old Trafford after the season. The German coach will, however, continue to work in Manchester.
The revered figure of the football world, who will celebrate his 64th birthday in exactly two months, took over at Manchester United last November when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made an unsuccessful start to the season.
Miracles were not to be expected, however, Rangnick is a very experienced man who has great insight and has tried his hand at a number of footballing roles, but he has more recently been in the role of manager rather than coach.
The beginning of his time on the Red Devils bench can definitely be evaluated positively, at least in terms of results, although the playing side was not good at all, especially up front. It should also be added that at the beginning they faced very weak opponents.
However, at crucial moments Rangnick could not succeed with his charges, as evidenced by the failures in the FA Cup with Middlesbrough and the Champions League with Atlético Madrid. And the wins over Tottenham and Norwich in the last 11 games is then a sad confirmation that the German coach has failed in his role.
Many events have certainly played a part, including Mason Greenwood dropping out and frequent injuries to key figures in the team, but even so Rangnick certainly had the squad to make another appearance in the Champions League next year. Even the cup failures are a major disappointment.
It would have been much worse if it wasn’t for Cristiano Ronaldo, who is dragging the Red Devils with his goals. This was admitted in a recent interview with the club’s website by the German coach himself, who admitted his heavy dependence on the Portuguese cannonballer, who already has 17 league goals to his name.
At the same time, however, he let it be known that he is not entirely sure whether Ronaldo will remain at Old Trafford next season. Of course, that will depend on the new coach and the club’s management, to whom Rangnick will continue to serve as a consultant.
For a German coach who will soon be so old, it is admirable that he is not afraid to be involved in two professions at once instead of retiring. However, his managerial experience will certainly be of great help to the Red Devils’ management.
