Sergio Ramos saw his first red card this season when he failed to play Saturday’s game against Reims. However, it was definitely one of the harshest sending off the legendary defender has experienced. He has received a defence from the club, for whom this is a major inconvenience.
Sergio Ramos is a phenomenal defender and has had a great career. However, in addition to his goals, leadership and great defensive skills, he also has red cards to his name. He’s already received 28 in his career.
On Saturday night, he was sent off for the second time during his engagement in Paris. But it is not exactly deserved. On the contrary, it shows how bad the situation with referees in Ligue 1 is going.
In the 41st minute, Ramos fouled and was shown a yellow card for the foul. However, it was quite harsh, so PSG players went to the referee to protest. Even the Spaniard himself disagreed, but he received a red card for his “protest”.
It is worth mentioning that PSG failed to score a goal against Reims and the match ended in a goalless draw.
After the match, he was defended by fans and people from the club. “I think referees need to handle situations like this better. There was no reason for the sending off. It’s irritating, we want to play football, but it’s complicated like this,” Danilo Pereira told Canal+.
Coach Christophe Galtier also had his say on the situation: “I am not convinced that the insults for which Sergio was sent off were directed at the referee.”
For PSG, this sending off is a big problem. Ramos is one of the key players, with him in the line-up the French champion simply does not lose. PSG have an important game against Olympique Marseille in a week.
