Conference league
Raków is led by General Papszun. He must always have a bigger salary than the highest paid player, says former Bartl ward
Slavia will face a team in the Conference playoffs where the biggest star is not the player, but the coach. Kind of like in Slavia. Marek Papszun is also extremely successful, but unlike Trpišovský’s friendly approach, he has the attitude of a general, which Daniel Bartl experienced first-hand.
On Thursday evening we will have two clashes. Jindřich Trpišovský and Marek Papszun have a lot in common, but also a lot of differences.
As coaches, both are probably the biggest stars of the team. They have luxurious salaries and almost privileged positions in the club, they are accountable only to the president and have a lot of influence on him.
At the same time, however, all the advantages are repaid by successes; Papszun pulled Raków from the third league to the top of the Ekstraklasa, Trpišovský made Slavia the Czech hegemon of recent years.
However, even they have differences between them. While Trpišovský tries to create a friendly atmosphere in the cabin and has an almost friendly relationship with the team leaders who have been playing under him for a long time, Papszun has more of a general’s attitude and keeps his distance from the players.
Daniel Bartl, who worked under Trpišovský in 2013 and 2014 at Žižkov and from September 2015 to December 2017 in Liberec, experienced both coaches first-hand. Papszun led him from 2018 to 2021 in Raków.
And he found out that it was a completely different world quite soon. Papszun is a general, players cannot even leave the canteen area without his permission and have to sit still until the coach finishes. He also has a special clause in his contract.
“He has a contract that he must always be the best paid of the whole team, no player can have more than him. Every year he signs a new contract depending on how the structure of the roster and the players’ salaries change, and he keeps that he has ten percent more than the player with the highest salary. He already has so much money there that I don’t know if Legia or Lech would even be able to give him more,” Bartl told Deník Sport.
On Thursday evening the fight for the Conference League will begin. A clash of two different worlds. Which will be more successful?
