According to the latest reports, Rafael Leão will sign a new contract at San Siro in the next few days! It should earn him five million euros a year, plus another two in bonuses. AC sporting director Paolo Maldini also confirmed this.
Rafael Leão arrived in Milan at the beginning of August 2019 from Lille of France. At the time, the Rossoneri sent just under €30 million for him, with his market value rising significantly during his time at the San Siro.
Now, as reported by Transfermarkt, Leão’s price tag stands at €80 million. Moreover, the Italian big club has previously announced that, if interested in the Portuguese winger’s services, potential suitors must prepare a minimum of €100 million.
It should be noted, Leão has already rejected several offers earlier this year. For example, Chelsea and Real Madrid were interested in him, while earlier there was also speculation about Liverpool’s interest. As for the Almada native himself, he always wanted to stay in Milan, according to the famous journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Rossoneri have been working for quite a long time to extend his contract. Well, based on recent reports, whether from the Italian media, The Athletic or again from journalist Romano, AC have reached a new agreement with Leão.
Officially, the new contract will be signed in the next few days. It should earn the twenty-three year old Portuguese five million euros a year, plus potentially another two million in bonuses. In addition, Leão will also receive a two million signing bonus.
The fact that, according to recent reports, it will ultimately be Lille who will pay Sporting Lisbon a fine of €20 million was a significant contributing factor to the deal.
This stems from Leão’s decision to unilaterally terminate his contract in the summer of 2018 following an attack by the club’s ultras and subsequently move to Lille, from where he was poached by AC in August 2019.
However, nothing has been confirmed officially yet. However, we have already written about the details of this case in a previous article.
In the red and black jersey, he has so far appeared in 159 competitive matches, in which he has scored 40 goals and assisted on another 34.
