The British Grand Prix was full of passion and emotion. But not least, it has stirred controversy of gigantic proportions. Lewis Hamilton is facing massive criticism for his duel with Max Verstappen. Christian Horner, the boss of Red Bull Racing, is not going to let it go. What has he said about him and what is Hamilton actually facing?

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen crashed badly in Sunday’s British Grand Prix. The incident took place at Turn 9, when after a long wheel-to-wheel battle with Lewis Hamilton, he literally flew off the track, severely damaging his monocoque.

The race was, of course, stopped via red flags after a while. After about twenty-five minutes, the race was restarted from a fixed position, with Hamilton subsequently receiving a ten-second penalty for causing a collision with the Dutch driver.

Not only under our article published during the Grand Prix on Sunday, but also on social media around the world, racist abuse was hurled at Hamilton.

A large percentage of fans didn’t like the moral aspect of it. Specifically, that the seven-time world champion was rejoicing in his victory in a somewhat misplaced way. And it was in this context that after their duel Verstappen was in the hospital for further examinations.

It should be noted that the Dutch rider had been off the track for an unusually long time and was visibly shaken. And wouldn’t you know it! At the moment he hit the tyre barrier, the current leader of the drivers’ championship was facing a 51 G overload.

During and after the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was subjected to several racist abuse on social media following the race collision.”

“These people have no place in our sport and we urge the individuals concerned to be held accountable for their actions. Formula 1, the FIA, drivers and teams are working to build a more diverse and inclusive sport and such unacceptable instances of online abuse must be highlighted and eliminated.”

Later, Red Bull and McLaren also joined the statement.

However, the moral aspect of the whole matter is supported by a statement from Red Bull Racing’s boss, Christian Horner. He did not spare any words for the British Mercedes driver.

“I don’t understand how Lewis can be happy about his victory when he put his rival in hospital. It’s disappointing, it’s extremely unpleasant. He has put the safety of another driver at risk by his actions and that is unacceptable to me.”

“I don’t care what Lewis said. Look at your own analysis, make your own comparison. For me, it’s a hollow victory.”

“It’s one of the fastest corners in the championship. Lewis has more than enough experience to know that this is unacceptable. As I say, I’m very disappointed that a driver of his calibre would make such a manoeuvre. It was dangerous.”

According to the latest information from the official F1 website, the Horner-led Red Bull will take it further. And it’s safe to say they’re succeeding. Hamilton is in danger of having his result, his victory, from the British Grand Prix annulled.
