Racing Club vs. Velez Sarsfield: preview and betting tips

Most football leagues are on break, but in Argentina, the first league season is getting underway. One of the favourites, Racing Club, will welcome Velez at home. What to expect and what to bet on?

As one of the favourites, Racing are not happy with the start. Although it beat Huracán 2-0 in the first round, it lost to Godoy Cruz a week ago with two second-half goals. After two rounds, they are only nineteenth in the table.

Velez is even worse off. He is 26th, with only two teams worse off. At the start of the league they drew 1: 1 at the ground of Patronato, then fell 0: 1 at the ground of Platense with a goal from the 74th minute.

The mainstay of the home side is striker Enzo Copetti, through all competitions he has netted ten goals and assisted three times. The talented 19-year-old central midfielder Carlos Alcaraz scored five times and assisted three goals.

Lucas Janson is clearly the visitors’ biggest star, scoring ten times and assisting once from the left wing position. Twenty-two-year-old right winger Luca Orellano scored three goals and assisted on six others.

Racing have been successful at home, losing only two of their last eleven games at their own stadium.

Velez, on the other hand, have struggled away from home, winning only two of their last fourteen games.

Given Racing’s home form, I think they will win the game.
