Eight football stadiums are set to host the forthcoming World Cup. The sixth of them was completed on Friday. It is called the Al Thumama Stadium.
The inauguration of the new shrine took place on the occasion of the Amir Cup final match, in which Xavi’s Al Sadd clashed with Al Rayyan. Fans were also present at this momentous occasion.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is thrilled with the new stadium, did not miss the match ceremony: “Qatar has never ceased to amaze the football world. Al Thumama is another work of art. I can’t wait for the first World Cup in the Middle East.”
With a capacity of 40,000 seats, the Holy See will host World Cup matches up to the quarter-final stage.
The look of the stadium is inspired by the traditional cap (gahfiya), which is part of men’s and boys’ clothing in the Arab world.
