Public reaction to Barcelona match against Las Palmas: an incredible 14 offsides by the Blaugranas and a manly assist by Lewandowski
As is tradition for Barcelona in the league this year, it was no spectacle. The triumph of the Catalans at the ground of Las Palmas was happy and earned, the decisive goal at 2:1 was scored from a penalty. The intervention on Ilkay Gundogan is much discussed on social media.
As is tradition for Barcelona in the league this year, it was no spectacle. The triumph of the Catalans at the ground of Las Palmas was happy and earned, the decisive goal at 2: 1 was scored from a penalty. The tackle on Ilkay Gundogan has been much discussed on social media.
A first half from the realm of horror and, in a sense, revenge. Barcelona were dismantled by the pair of Munir El Haddadi, Sandro Ramirez. Both players spent their youth at the Catalan club, El Haddadi was even considered one of the greatest talents of his generation.
And it was Haddadi who cleared a centre from the right side to the back post in the 12th minute. Ramirez was also seen. Barcelona basically had nothing in the first half, on the contrary the Las Palmas midfielder sent in four shots. The best one hit the left post.
Barcelona as we (don’t) know it
Xavi’s charges played a classic match of this season. A torment without the typical tiki-taka, without calmness on the ball and without a killer in attack. The disjointedness is also noticeable from the incredible 14 offsides, something similar to this cannot be imagined during Xavi’s playing era. “To beat Las Palmas like this is disgusting,” wrote La Liga YouTube user Tabares underneath the cut.
The poor play also stems from the lack of a killer. Robert Lewandowski is also much criticised by his own fans for his lack of interest in getting involved in the game. He also looked disgusted on Thursday when the coach substituted him before the last third of the game.
Still, the fans rather made fun of his humorous assist at 1:1, when he was hit in the head by a kick from the defending players. The spectators appreciated that the Polish forward did not flinch. “He acted his guy. You don ‘t see that a lot nowadays,” wrote user Heracher in a liked comment.
Penalty for experience and calculation
The big topic is the penalty kick from the stoppage time. Ilkay Gundogan was clever, clearly waiting for a push from an opposing player according to the footage. “The defender should not have put his hand on his back, but it was a very lucky decision for Barcelona,” wrote fan Will Goins.
Even Las Palmas supporters and their coach did not agree with the harsh verdict in the set-up. “I don’t know if it was enough for a penalty. And I don’t know if we offended our luck, but we’re not lucky with the referees’ decision right now,” coach Garcia Pimienta said.
