The spring will be without Czech participation in European cups. Although Slavia was the favourite in its group, it failed to win important matches and gained only eight points. What was the public reaction to their elimination?

For many years Slavia has shown quality performances in Europe. But the 2022/23 season was not meant to be. First came the near elimination in the qualifiers, finally her journey ends in the group stage.

Two defeats to Cluj and a draw with Sivaspor were to blame. Fans believed in a certain promotion from the first place, some even wrote about the journey without losing a point.

The club cannot be satisfied with this result. The seriousness of the situation is also realized by Jaroslav Tvrdík, who, however, recalled the earlier performances of his team in European cups.

One year shouldn’t change anything, and the fans are in a similar mood, who supported their team until they went to the dressing rooms despite the unfavourable result.

When did Slavia lose the promotion? There are several reasons and it certainly cannot be blamed on individual players. Just look at the attached video, where you can see a big missed chances.

Even coach Jindřich Trpišovský himself complained about it after the match. “The basic key would be in the home games, we made only four points from three, that’s the difference against the previous groups.

The basis is born in them, you have to make seven or more points plus bring something from outside. The second thing is converting chances. We haven’t found a goal scorer who is dangerous,” he said at the press conference.

Does Slavia deserve criticism? Definitely yes. After all, it is a necessity to advance from such a group, and there was a huge chance to raise the coefficient.

However, it must be taken into account that it is the one that has won almost half of the entire Czech coefficient in the last five years.

Thanks to her previous successes, the fans are quite forgiving with this dropout. They are well aware that the coaching staff does a good job and fluctuations are part of it.

So there was none of the booing that you would expect to hear in other stadiums after the end of the game. Of course, it can’t be like that all the time and Slavia must learn their lesson.
