The very first game day of the new Champions League season will feature two clashes from the group of death, where we will find AC Milan, PSG, Dortmund and Newcastle. We take a closer look at the French versus the Germans.
There can be no doubt about the favourite, even though both of PSG’s biggest stars Lionel Messi and Neymar left in the summer. Luis Enrique, however, still has Kylian Mbappé at his disposal, who is already scoring one goal after another on a regular basis.
Mbappé will be complemented in attack by Ousmane Dembélé and probably another French talent, Randal Kolo Muani, who arrived from Frankfurt in the summer. However, he has big competition in Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos.
PSG, however, failed to win the weekend’s league game against Nice, which they lost 2-3. Coach Enrique’s charges have only 8 points from the opening 5 rounds.
Dortmund are in a slightly better position and last time they beat Freiburg 4:2. Borussia, however, also have 8 points in the Bundesliga table, but have played one round less than PSG so far.
But what is somewhat interesting when looking at Dortmund is that today’s squad could have an average age of over 28. The German side is very big on talent, but that is not completely the case at the moment and Edin Terzic is building a lot on the experienced players he almost won the title with last season.
If anything is expected from this match, it’s goals, which have been falling on both sides a lot in recent games. However, the odds for Over 2.5 are around 1.36, so you have to believe in at least 4 goals.
However, a win for the home team is a rather tempting offer with odds of 1.73. In the spring of 2020, PSG won 2: 0 at home, it can be assumed that they will repeat a similar success.
