The Champions League is back, with a gigantic clash between two big weights, PSG and Bayern Munich, in the eighth round of the best club competition. What to bet on in the first leg?

Both teams have the highest ambitions, but one of them will be eliminated in the first knockout round. PSG also failed there last year when they fell short against Real Madrid. Bayern reached the quarter-finals, where they were knocked out by Villarreal.

PSG relies on the individual quality of stars Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Both the Argentine and the Frenchman were plagued by injuries and their start in the eighth-final was uncertain, but they had already trained with the team the day before the match and were included on the roster for the duel with Bayern.

Bayern have more of a team feel, not relying on individuals. Although one name is definitely worth mentioning and that is youngster Jamal Musiala. The German midfielder is in amazing form, recently soloing his way through six Wolfsburg players to score.

We are no stranger to this Paris-Munich duel in recent years. In the 2019/20 Champions League final, Bayern won 1-0 and took away PSG’s only chance to win the Eared Cup so far.

A year later, the two teams already met in the quarter-finals and the French side returned the defeat to the defending champions, winning 3: 2 away, although they lost 0: 1 at home, but at that time the rule of scoring goals on the opponents’ pitches still applied.

And what about the current form? Bayern got back on track after the initial stumble in January (three draws in a row) and won the next three games. Fresh signing João Cancelo has helped, as he has netted two goals in the first two games.

PSG, on the other hand, are not doing well at all. It goes into the semi-finals with two defeats in a row, first falling to Marseille in the Coupe de France and then to Monaco 1:3.

Bayern are in good shape at the moment, but the same cannot be said for PSG. The players are divided amongst themselves, there is no team concept, they rely only on individuality. That’s why I think Bayern won’t lose the first game.
