While PSG is still officially led by Christophe Galtier, it is no secret that the French champion is looking for a new coach. Julian Nagelsmann will not be heading to Paris, nor will José Mourinho. Two names are now mainly in play.

Christophe Galtier came to Paris last summer as the man who could bring the team together. He was not a coaching star, but in his previous engagements he managed to achieve interesting results even in limited conditions. Moreover, he is very pragmatic.

But after a year at the helm of PSG, we know that was not enough to lead the biggest team in France. They did manage to win the title, but that is not taken for granted at the Parc des Princes.

In addition, there were many different problems. Quite possibly the blame for the disappointing results does not lie with Galtier himself, but rather with the rest of the club’s management and its incompetence. But that is for PSG itself to assess. The French strategist is just waiting to be sacked.

In the meantime, the world’s media have been discussing for weeks who will replace him. Names like José Mourinho, Zinedine Zidane and Julian Nagelsmann have been bandied about. But none of this looks realistic.

Currently, only two people are more or less being linked with a Paris engagement. First in line is Luis Enrique, who achieved great results at Barcelona and has led the Spanish national team for the last few years. Second in line is Thiago Motta, currently coach of Italian side Bologna and former PSG player.

Interestingly, Enrique is wanted by the Qatari owners of the club, while the president of Al-Khelaifi would like Motta. No one is consulting with sporting director Luis Campos, whose word should be important if PSG wants to be a meaningfully run club, according to the French media.

However, Mott’s arrival would make sense, at least from the point of view that he already knows what is going on at PSG. He knows the environment at the club, he knows the nature of the management and that is something that the coaches who have led the club so far may have lacked. Even his word could have carried a bit more weight.

However, the question is who will find coming to PSG worthwhile. Big stars are leaving the club, Kylian Mbappé’s stay is not certain, at least not long term. At the moment it is a very unstable environment with a huge amount of pressure exerted.
